Seminar #1 Topic – Fake news and how to fight them
The first seminar lasted 5 days - from 31.10.2018. (30.10.2018. Day of arrival) until 04.11.2018. (05.11.2018 departure day).
The topic of the seminar was "Fake News and How to Deal with It".
Our efforts were focused on building critical thinking among participants, developing their competencies to make informed decisions, interpreting global issues, and the ability to work with a variety of sources of information.
During the seminar, participants had an opportunity to gain a thorough overview of the topic through various methods of formal and non-formal education. During the first day, all participants had the opportunity to get to know each other through various games and simulations. The members of the association also presented the main topic of the project and the program for the next days.
On the second day of the seminar, participants from the three partner organizations had to introduce themselves and explain the current situation in their home country. The participants then discussed various topics related to populism and its spread through false news in Europe and the world.
A guided tour of the city of Sofia and introduction to the local culture were organized on the third day of the seminar. The participants also attended two public lectures organized in the context of the project, led by Assoc. Prof. Rumyana Kolarova, Lecturer at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Desislava Ivanova, Lecturer at the Technical University of Sofia , where they received a thorough academic read on the subject.
On the fourth day of the seminar, a lecture and a discussion were held on the topic of the psychological impact of fake news, as well as a historical outline and the emergence and spread of this phenomenon. An intercultural dinner was organized in the evening, during which the participants presented their cuisine and culture.
The last day of the seminar was dedicated to the spread of fake news around the world. A guest lecturer from our partners at the United Nations Society in Bulgaria gave a lecture on the global development and impact of fake news. Throughout the seminar, various activities were conducted through the non-formal learning method such as simulations, games, discussions and debates. Through them, each participant expressed his / her own opinion, further developed his / her language skills, leadership skills and teamwork.
